At the N900 meetup in San Francisco the Mozilla guys said that they were still expecting to release Firefox Mobile (Fennec) before the end of this year:

at the moment fennec is too slow to start, too slow to render pages and too slow in panning them. there is no comparison performance wise to the default browser. however I love weave and I'm sure fennec will get better eventually. i just hope that happens soon.

I think he refers to the n8x0 devices because I see that fennec runs pretty well on n900

I thought konttori works for Nokia, so I couldn't imagine they were refering to a 2 year device when they have their hands on an N900

This video here shows how "well" fennect runs on N900.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ih5SrhCJukI

Basically the performance is crap. Nowadays I (and users who are accustomed to for example iphone) expect smooth scrolling... maybe 30fps is still acceptable, but that can't be claimed good anymore.

Ok, as a disclaimer, it's still youtube, so maybe I would give it a chance, but if the performance is similar than on that video, then out it goes.
Phones own browser works much more smoothly (even on youtube)

I installed this (build 5) on my N810 and was really pleased to surf with it! Especially the usage of the whole screen and fast zooming in, by double tapping! Selecting a link seems a bit more difficult because of this...
It is not slow in comparison with the normal browser (only opening, I don't care so much about that).
