It seems like the only things that this user wanted out of his device was a) rendering speed for browsing b)favorable dimensions for his use case c)he wanted it now, now, now!
Looks like you won, I think I'm ok waiting a few more days for the N900 for one simple reason : Maemo 5 .

yep your correct its the competitors forum he purchased a HD2 i purchased a N900 now we are competing, N900 wins by TKO
if he wants to come and wind people up by displaying is love for HD2 on a unrelated site then there's nothing wrong with a bit a banter being thrown back at him

No. It was because he couldn't wait the requisite 8 days for an acknowledged better and cheaper device.
It's Generation I Want It Yesterday

Having said that, waiting hasn't been easy, especially I've been off all week with flu. A week of playing with the n900 would have been much more fun

Again it speaks to someone who wanted it NOW NOW NOW. Rather than RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT.

On a personal note I find it hard to believe ANYONE who works and uses UNIX every day would EVER take a windows device when with a little patience (less than 2 weeks most likely) they could have a fully functional Linux device.
I guess he can try and get one of the released N900 units within his 14-28 day return period

I don't regret it, at all, but I see why you would say that.
You're right though, why would I ever, in the opensource idea of things, say why I went for something else. Better to keep things to myself so no-one can advance.

And no,.. it's not a now-now user speaking, I would've just bought the n900 end of september and stuck with it because it's an investment. The HD2 came out before the n900 and while trying it out in the shop and from what I gathered online it is the right choice for me.
Also, I don't have a stick up my *rse, if something is superiour with regards to my needs , even if it isn't unix based, I'll take it. It's supposed to be a tool, an aid, to get by.

And you're right, you can throw stuff back at me, don't make it personal though. Maybe I was a bit uber-happy with it, but,.. you will all be gushing about you're new n900 here when it comes out. I did the same with the hd2.
I love the digital compass on this thing too

The smartphone market is so cut throat these days. Snooze you lose. Nokia still thinks we're in 2003 when they ruled the waves.

We have seen Droid and HD2 announced and then released since N900 was announced. There needs to be a management clearance at Nokia.

Who in the world signed off N97 for release ?

I wouldn't have made the decision that you did but I appreciate that it was not an irrational decision. I, for one, am interested in what people find positive in other phones or negative in the N900 and vice versa.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

That said, gushing is never cool.

Enjoy your new device.

I am still going to buy the N900. Having said this, Nokia should have kept the screen size of the N810 and also the keyboard but they did not. Instead they downgrade to 3.5 screen and a funny keyboard. They released N95 with a dedicated GPU then removed it in N96/97.

Don't know what's wrong with them up there at Nokia - maybe its too cold in Espoo, they need a Safari in Kenya or something. Are they just this dull ?.

My suggestion

Maemo 5/6
Body of 6700
Camera of N86
Keyboard of E90
3.8 - 4.3 inch capacitive + resistive screen (and pls don't tell me they cant create best of both)
Sound of 5800

and then tell someone about it - even HTC is advertising.on telly these days.

Easy !
