Has anyone opened an excel spreadsheet on their N900? 4 of the first 5 shortcuts on my E90 are to spreadsheets (Scratchpad, RestaurantSplit, TrainSched, GasMileage) as I use spreadsheets like most people use widgets.

Does the DataVis program included allow using (and saving) .xls files? Can it be upgraded to do so? What about KOffice and/or Open Office?

Thanks

I believe the DataVis program only does read-only. No writing (though whether they make it so you can buy write access or something later on might be possible).

As for OpenOffice, yes it can read and write .xls files.

GoogleDocs is probably your best bet.

I've heard rumors and legends that it will be possible, maybe via all three packages. Has anyone actually done it with an N900?

I'm interested in any trade-offs (cost/installation issues/dual boot requirements) that I'll be faced with. Nobody will truly know that until after they've actually done it.

The trade off is that the viewers are trial... There is a KOffice port in the works AFAIK.

What happens if one tries to install the OS2008 package for gnumeric?
(I'd try myself but I'm still waiting for my device... )

Has anyone with a shiny new N900 gotten to the "boring part" of doing work with a spreadsheet? Tried and failed? Succeeded? Which package?

Wow
My N900 is about 2,00 miles away, and it looks like I'll still be the first one to try to open/edit/save an .xls file?

There is another tread on that call office or something like that. At the present it seem that you can only read office file, there is nothing available yet that can write.

I found the thread "Use as an office tool" but that's a discussion of PDF and Word Processing docs.
