I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right directions for creating my own widget to further personalise the desktops so i can display animated gifs?! I'm no expert, but i'd guess the development pages are the best place to start

In there you will find a developers guide, Maemo training material, UI Guides, references, api guides etc etc

edit: forgot to mention, welcome!!

QT is a good way to go. If you're using C++, then this guide is invaluable to get started with.

If you're using Python, I can't tell you anything, but there are lots of people here who do use it so you should be able to find plenty of help.

right now it is still a bit tricky to create desktop widgets in Qt for fremantle. But there are two good guides with examples how to do it in C and python.

Cheers Daniel
