I did try the instructions and when I add it via the application manager it shows up but when I hit refresh the applications are not there, I just updated to the latest version of operating system and this is a first time clean install. The gaim program itself is installed but thats as far as I can get. I installed it by directing my broser to the directory as I showed in th eprevious message. Can you provide the directlink from th einternet broswer for the files?

Here you go my friend. I think (I did not install it this way), this should work for you.

On page: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...?t=5547&page=2, near the bottom tells you what you need to do.

I can follow directions but that process didn't work on my n800. I have
gaim 2.0.0-0nix18 15mb installed. but I cant install the msn file because it says the app I need is not installed. Do you have instant messenger so we can talk? msn?

I do but I need to bail for now. Try this:

1. Uninstall all of the GAIM components.
2. From the Application Manager, install the new repositories.
3. When it asks for a refresh, have it do so.
4. Go to "Browse Installable Applications"
5. Pick GAIM first, and then the other stuff, i.e. protocols and extras last.

This is exactly what I did and it worked. Sorry I can not stay around now, but I can check back tomorrow to see how you got on. Drop me a PM if you need additional help.

Cheers.

I notcied I didn't install the Make sure you get the armel deb at the bottom and the protocols. When I try to install that package I get unable to install because these are missing

libgcrypt11 and libgnutls11

Un-installed and back to ver 1.5, let me know when 2.0 is a tad bit more stable. Not sure if something is conflicting with 2.0 or what is happening to have such frequent crashes, I'm running latest firmware (10-7) and have Canola, Camera, and Maemopad+ apps currently installed. On occasion I pair my N800 with a ThinkOutside Stowaway BT keyboard. 2.0 will freeze during a conversation and then I get the (generic) pop-up window error msg that Gaim has stopped responding.

finally got it working. I don't know why it would not install but gaim finally showed up as an option to install from the application catalog. It indicates 2.0.0beta6. I picked the smaller gaim option. NOT the gaim-l10n 4.5 mb file. There needs to be clarification on this from start to finish for all us newbies. And by the way, I don't understand why people complain about battery life, I have been on this thing all day probably 5-8 hours and just had to plug it it for a charge.

Did I get the latest version? THANKS to all that replied

I recently updated but I didn't like Gaim 2.0! Don't know why anyone had a problem with Gamie 1.5.8 It worked perfectly fine and very fast, and I never had any errors on my Nokia N800. But I decided to update just to see how 2.0 was and it was way too slow and crashed a few times. So I uninstalled it and reinstalled 1.5.8 and now the "icons" in the menu are just 4 blue bricks and they used to be the Gaim symbol. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it is still the same. Does anyone know how to fix this? I tried the search feature in the forum but I think "icon" is the wrong word. I know that this is a little matter and really doesn't matter much but it does bug me.

Thanks in advance for any help
