for example "~" cannot be used in virtual keyboard on n900.
can anyone type ~ in n900 virtual keyboard? or just me cannot do it.? also ( ‘ ’ ¨ ) cannot be typed in virtual keyboard.

Thats happen to me too, i think its a bug. Just press the spacebar after it.

Actually it's a feature these symbols may appear above characters in foreign languages, so if you press any of them and input an "o" character for example, you'll get an õ or ö. I hope this helps

They are "blind" characters. they are there, but you won't see them.

At least, this is how it was explained to me a while ago.

Dead characters to be precise

Anyway you can add them to the xterm bar... search for gconftool on the forum and you should find the info.
