I just learned, many Nokia devices do not support MPEG4 AVC1, thus many video podcasts do not run on them, e.g. the n82 has this issue.

So I wonder, whether the N900 can play MPEG4 avc1.

To test this, you could try to open this video podcast in your N900:

http://podfiles.zdf.de/podcast/3sat_...ng_neues_p.mp4

or shorter: http://tinyurl.com/y9noryt

It's "neues", german speaking computer related video podcast.

If the N900 cannot play this podcast (about 95 MB), then the N900 cannot handle MPEG4 AVC1. Which would make me sad, cause I want to buy the N900....

It gave me a choice of saving or opening in media player. Media player started buffering, then mafw-dbus-wrapper crashed. Crash report sent.

It does play fine, though, when you download it and open it locally.
I only watched the beginning, but there was no stuttering or other problems... apart from the encoding artifacts that I also see on my desktop.
