I regularly respond to IMs with emails, especially since file exchange is hit or miss or nonexistent on many mobile clients

To make things easy.

There should be a look up and cross-match.That is, the Conversations application will look to see if the email address of one of the contacts has been used in the email and then just copy the email header into the Conversation list.

I'm not a programmer, but how difficult can this be?

I'd like conversations to be configurable... i.e. store SMS on IMAP server, only handle IM, adding email to the mix would be just horrible. If you realy really really want email in conversations and have a jabber/gtalk account connect to it using some better client like psi and add a jabber mail component transport to it. Then you can have mail in there and even respond to it... did I mention you can also have msn transport and icq, yahoo and some others as well.
