widgets are too small for me. Any way to resize them? Same applies for internet radio info text.

In general, no. The Maemo 5 style guide says that desktop widgets should be of a fixed size. I expect some third party widgets may allow configuring of size, though.

I really dislike a limit like that. Non-resizable applets was very annoying on earlier OS versions. I'm already annoyed by this on the N900 too.

take tune wiki as an example. I would occassionally like to see the lyrics of the song without picking up the n900 from the desk at my office. Now the text simply is too small for me. I'm really old-45 years

Some widgets I have created (Personal Dataplan Monitor, Personal IP Address, Personal Photo Frame) allow resizing - to an extent.

Without getting too technical, there are some limitations in the desktop widget code that do not allow simple resizing (drag events are disabled, the "x" and configure buttons are statically placed). It is possible to work around that, but I honestly doubt any built-in widgets will be resizable unless they eliminate some of the problems.
