You can also unpack with avidemux in Linux.

using mplayer + sip seems to fix the problem.

It's arguably not a bug. Packed B-frames are a nonstandard invention to workaround bugs in some windows codecs.
Most encoding software wanrs against using packed b-frames, saying it's nonstandard and will reduce compatibility with hardware decoders. Yet people stupidly tick every box they can find...

This might come out has a troll comment, so before the flames I want to tell I'm a very satisfied and happy N900 owner !
However...
I don't get it, we got a Cortex A8 @ 600Mhz that everyone says it's awesome in performance, however my 3 year old WM pda with a 520Mhz Marvell cpu plays most Divx/Xvid flawless without any hiccups that occur in the N900, using mplayer or the default Media Player...
All software side "issue" ? I mean i can play a regular 700Mb divx without much hiccups, but they do exist where they didn't in an older less powerful device...
Anyways like i said before, it's an awesome device and i did eventually watch the movies on my Tv with TVout, i just don't understand why like i said try not taking it has a troll comment...

Well MPlayer on N900 plays back packed b-frames fine.
The DSP codec doesn't know about packed B-frames. I'm guessing they just implemented a subset of the mpeg4 asp spec, and didn't research the utter crap real life tools produce.

The fix is pretty simple, download this program

open up your file, if it says packed bitstream, tick the box saying unpack. there's no re-encoding so it takes seconds to do this.
Voila!
