i checked my battery usage periodically today in order to understand a bit wheres is the drainage concentrated... i had edge enabled, skype disabled and the display lit to the 3rd level... i must say the battery is improving compared to the first 4 days of use... here's the log:

Right off the charger with the green light:
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 92 (0x5c) (int)
Fri Dec 25 07:19:25 EET 2009

Updated a couple of contacts, tried syncing mfe w google in vain sent/received 5 sms:
$ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 84 (0x54) (int)
Fri Dec 25 08:24:21 EET 2009

2 phone calls + 3 sms;
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 77 (0x4d) (int)
Fri Dec 25 11:20:30 EET 2009

many phone calls + smsing + emails checked and sent
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 71 (0x47) (int)
Fri Dec 25 13:03:57 EET 2009

idle since last check
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 61 (0x3d) (int)
Fri Dec 25 16:10:23 EET 2009
~ $

20 min of wifi and a couple of calls:
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 54 (0x36) (int)
Fri Dec 25 17:37:43 EET 2009

basic usage (calls, smsing checking mail)
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 26 (0x1a) (int)
Fri Dec 25 22:33:01 EET 2009

1 long call (15 min)
~ $ lshal | grep percen;date
battery.charge_level.percentage = 25 (0x19) (int)

A bit of a side-topic, but did anyone compare the lshal batery percentge with the battery indicator on the status bar?
Right now my lshal says 72% but the status bar indicator show the battery as basically full. From the status bar alone I would estimate the battery at 95%.
I noticed similar 'differences' at other battery levels.

Does the status bar not relate to the lshal percentage, or maybe not in al linear way?

I think the status bar uses battery.charge_level.current, which goes from 0 through 8. It seems to correspond to percentage in an almost, but notstrictly, linear way.

if we can put it in a very "simple" or lets say "shallow" way, i find the battery indicator to miss the correct percentage by around 15% .... what i mean by it is that when it shows full on the green bar, your battery is actually anywhere between 85 and 97% (ive never seen it reach 100) and so on... which can be quite misleading...

What's "wifi use"? Just having the wifi on consumes almost no power at all, as long as the access point isn't broken...

That's not really my experience, but i've not been too careful to separate being connected from any network activity.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?
