I had the same issue as the op.
Then went to check the log (Tools->Log...)
clear the log.
do a refresh catalog again.
Got the unable to update list message.
then go to the log again.
saw some W... and E...
The lines that start with W are just Warnings.
You need to take care the ones that start with E (Errors).
What I did was to disable the catalog that created the error.
refresh catalog again...
You should not get the 'unable to update..' message anymore
Enable the catalog that you just disabled.
Try refreshing the catalog again...
And hopefully you won't get the 'unable to update..' message anymore.
