Openning a Xterm, you'll find its configuration in .config/tracker/tracker.cfg

There's an option to ignore directories... NoWatchDirectory.
Actually there is :
  • $HOME/MyDocs/core-dumps
  • $HOME/MyDocs/cities
  • $HOME/MyDocs/.sounds/RingTones
  • $HOME/MyDocs/tmp
  • /media/mmc1/tmp
  • /media/mmc1/cities
From what i understand from what your saying, that all sounds promising! I havent a clue how to action any of it! Go to xterm, fine. Then its like russian to me!! haha, its only been a day. Do i need to gain root for any of that? Im reluctant to, seen as everythings working just fine at the moment.

Im guessing i do, seen as i type the '.congif...' part in, and it hits me with access denied. So i assume i download the app, gain root, try again with the '.config...' line, and then -

Do i literally type

NoWatchDirectory

<enter>

HOME/MyDocs/NewFolder (assuming my files to 'hide' are in there)

Sorry for been a noob!!

You'll need to use a text editor to edit /home/user/.config/tracker/tracker.cfg . You can use vi (already installed) or you can install another editor using apt-get. Make a backup of the file before you begin editing.

In that file is a line starting with NoWatchDirectory=directory1;directory2;etc.
Any directories (and their subdirectories) listed in this section will not be indexed by the tracker. You can just add your directory to the end of the list and save your changes.
As far as I know, it does not allow you to ignore files by both directory and filetype. So if (like me) you don't want your album art cluttering up the default pictures index then you're out of luck.

Then you will need to clear the existing tracker database. Use the command "tracker-processes -r". This will shut down tracker and clear the databases. The next time you open an application that uses tracker (media player, pictures, etc.) it will restart tracker and rescan your files. This will probably take a few minutes.

The usual disclaimers apply: make backups, read about the commands you're using before you run them, you do this at your own risk, etc. & etc.

Hope that helps.

Hi There,
I would love this function too as its pretty annoying when you go to look at pics on your phone that you have to either
  • view pics with album artwork
  • click 'all images' 'filter by folder' 'camera default folder'
when most obviously no-one ever decides to "browse" their album artworks.

I hope an app comes out for it soon or its included in the next firmware update

or if someone could give me an 'idiots guide' to doing it manually i could give it a go myself.

Thanks

If you have a windows pc open the command prompt and type
cd\ enter
md .videos enter

You then should have a directory on the c drive called .videos
put your videos in there and then copy over the directory to n900 in mass storage mode.
to play videos you must use the web browser.

file:///media/mmc1 (memory card)
file:///home/user/MyDocs (internal memory)

What this guy said!! Works for all docs, so pics, vids, music ect. Bit of a pain, but save the web address as a shortcut and its not a bad way to get it working

Remember to thank the guy, second post down -

thats all ok for hiding pics (hmmm what sort of pics would you want to 'hide' ...
or vids for that matter dongzhe http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=39832 lol

but anyway if you 'hide' the album arts they aint gonna show on the media player are they ... youll just get the picture of the old record player when playing music and no album art when choosing what album to listen to.

how is this sort of an issue logged with maemo/nokia so its fixed up in next firmware update, im new you see?

Typical Nokia - this is such a basic bug that should have been sorted in beta. I hope they fix this.

I came across exactly the same problem. I think what is actually needed instead of hacking around removing and hiding folders is album management. If noone else has already I'll raise a feature request for this.

Ideally I'd like to be able to create an "album", assign folders to that album. Thus have multiple albums for different events / occasions.

Also would like a private album with password protection so that if showing phone to colleagues, any personal photos eg. of myself and partner, or me out with mates getting drunk :-) aren't exposed to my work mates!

Also could have a catch all feature for any tracked folders that aren't placed into albums (similar to the way Apps have a catch all...)

I think that would remove the necessity to hack with exclude paths in that config.
