It has been mentioned in a lot of other threads that QQ is available on the n900 (both in Pidgin and in the other plugins) but is anyone else out there having trouble connecting to QQ?

I have a feeling the plugins (I'm using "extra protocol plugins" at the moment) and Pidgin standalone app only support the really old versions of QQ....I'm registered on QQ2009 English on my PC and maybe that's why it's telling me wrong username/password or simply not connecting. I've messed around with all the settings (use TCP, client version number) but I havent inserted anything in "Server" since I can't find that anywhere online at all! any help on this would be greatly appreciated since I live in China now and would like to be able to talk with my friends here on QQ.

on another note....English=pinyin dictionary!!!
I'm currently using MCSIM pinyin-hanzi input but I cant find ANY app for english-chinese (pinyin preferred) dictionary....I've been resorting to using MDBG, which is a great online dictionary and have placed it on my desktop as a shortcut but it is after all a website. A standalone app would be both more useful and faster.

and please don't give me a solution that entails the usage of "xterminal" or "deb installing" or "packaging" or "coding" or "c++" or "QT" or "monkeyballs" or any other Linux/programming power-user jargon. I don't code nor am I interested in taking the risk of bricking my beautiful beast. Until now I have only 2-3 apps from devel installed because it's not worth sending the phone to the US for repair (the phone is not sold in China yet).

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hpz, are you using pidgin to connect to QQ? There's an option in pidgin to simulate different QQ ver protocol; latest is QQ2008. This should be good enough to connect most of the time. Sometimes the server will disconnect you because you are using unofficial sw. You need to reactivate your account by going to the link provided. I can't say anything about the plugins, havent tried and dont want to.

Well, i have N900 and living in China. If you don't want to try anything from the commandline then really you shouldn't be installing stuff from the devel and testing repo now should you?

for the translation stuff, you can try the gui to google translation which you can find in the devel/testing repo, i forget the name but you should be able to find it. you also don't need to sent it back to the US for replacement, just take it to a local import phone dealer (where i got mine) and they should be able to deal with it for you.

哦。 well I tried both the plugin and Pidgin both wont connect. Pidgin will allow me to "enable" the account but no buddy list appears and it's still greyed out. Something wrong with the connection I guess. The plugin doesnt work at all. dont think it supports QQ2009... do you guys know of a workaround? I hope there's someone working on a QQ app...

You can visit some Chinese N900 forum. It's discussed lots of times.
I think you can get more information there.

I've no good suggestions now.
But only for QQ issue, maybe you need to change the protocol version in Pidgin QQ plugin settings.
For the offline dictionary, you can try QstarDict in the extras devel.

Sorry, still only have Chinese guide. Maybe you can use google to translate it to English.

thanks. I didn't know which forums you were talking about, I'll check it out and have friends here translate most of it (since google isn't 100% accurate).
