Hi,
I have the N900 for a week now and I've noticed that my battery is draining even when the device is idle. I've talked about it with a friend of mine (known here on the forum as late666) and he told me about "the wifi bug which keeps the wifi interface on even though it's off. Instead of waiting around I decided to create a small app that unloads the wifi modules (both wl12xx and mac80211) completely from the kernel and thus rendering the wifi chipset worthless. Running the application again will first detect if the wifi modules are not loaded into the kernel and will then load them back and restart all wifi-chipset-related demons and modules.

I've already passed the "proof of concept" level and I'm now packing it all to a nice "gui". If anyone has an idea for another functionality of that (very small) app I'd love to hear it. Also, if anyone would like to try the app once it is ready just give me a shout here in this thread.

Regards from Israel.

I had same problem , I ended up reflashing firmware again and now my phone is 70% full and been 9 hours. Before reflashing it, was like 6 hours max.

That's interesting. I've already flashed my phone once (for no reason, just wanted to see how it goes). Did any one else reflashed the phone because of the wifi bug and got rid of it?

I switcher capability in the top bar thingy. Just in case I need wifi - I like to sometimes use wifi for updates or when I need a higher DL speed.

Cheers

This sounds like a good idea, although it sounds like the PR 1.1 update is getting ready to roll out, and HOPEFULLY will make this unnecessary. The wi-fi bug is what I consider probably the worst of the current nokia bugs. Other than that mine is running like a dream. Just have to restart everytime I get done using wi-fi.

Has a bug been filed about this? I've kept my wifi on and connected pretty much constantly since I got my N900 in the first half of December. No battery life issues here.

@Kieron - I forgot to mention it in the first place. But that's exactly how I thought it would be.

@anonym - I think it's pretty random.
