W7 x64 is not to blame, I link it all the time and it's always detected as a phone.

I also have Petrovic and FM Radio installed, also zero issues.

I could be NPCS, I only used it once (since it has almost zero support) and abandoned it. Also, I used the cable for PC Suite. Try it.

Petrovich wouldn't be to blame, either, as it just uses functions (via GModule) provided by libraries Nokia have written; Petrovich does not handle sending the file itself.

Yes, I'm pretty sure about PCSuite being guilty of this problem when using bluetooth. Of course, I use the cable to connect to PCSuite without problems (mainly for synchronizing contacts with Outlook). However, bluetooth is useful for a fast synchro without having to attach the cable.

I've posted a bug about the problem (https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7849). I hope somebody can reproduce the problem.

I have the EXACT same problem,
My N900 show up as a computer in win7 devices.

Your trick helped med to connect to PC suite,
thank you SO much,

if the solution isn´t persistent, I can live with it untill this bug is fixed.
Will write a shellscript that makes the changes.

The fact that the N900 failed to identify itself as a "phone" isn't the problem, as its capabilities exceed that of a phone. I *like* my N900 showing up as a "computer" in Windows 7. The problem lies in PC Suite, and it expecting the device on the other end to always name itself as a "phone", rather than supporting a collection of bluetooth functions.

What are you using PC Suite to do? If you're only using PC Suite to make a connection the Internet via 3G, you might want to consider bluetooth-dun instead...
