If you want to hack code, I would recommend vi, pretty clean cut IDE with the full screen displaying code...

If you want to hack code, I would recommend vi, pretty clean cut IDE with the full screen displaying code... *warning* some learning curve require for vi.
If you are tester/debugger, use something more graphical like eclipse or something. Which will give you a better representation of what's going on, better way to step through apps.
with regards to the examples.. you need to get it from the svn if you want to get the full thing at once. Here's the link to get the files via SVN: https://garage.maemo.org/scm/?group_id=273
