In a 2-button version, the 2 buttons should be 2G and Dual. In 2G mode, the phone will only connect in 2G (GPRS or EDGE) even if 3G is available. This would save power. In Dual mode, the phone would connect in 3G / 3.5G if available. If there was no 3G coverage available, it would automatically fallback to 2G, which would be the expected behaviour for most people i guess.

Unless I'm missing something, the 3G mode on the other side is of little use IMHO. 3G mode means that the phone connects in 3G if 3G coverage is available but doesn't connect at all if there's no 3G coverage. I'm failing to see where this could be useful. Feel free to enlighten me though..
But then again, In dual mode, if the phone thinks that 3G coverage is not goot enought (something like 1-3 bars), it switches to 2G and speed drops enormously. Instead, if you force it to use just 3G coverage, it still uses the network far more faster (even there are just 3 bars). Dual mode also consumes more battery since the phone "looks" for the best service.

I don't understand how dual-mode prevents from "don't want to drop calls".

All this arguement about these modes are pointless, but I still can't think any reason for support Dual. I hate when it drops to 2G while it still could hang on in 3G network with 2-4 bars.

I rest my case.
Nevertheless, 5 stars for qwerty12, *****

just installed the update, and after a few switches from 3g for internet, and then back to 2g iam unable to get any cellular network signal !!, i've tried uninstall, reboots, taking sim card out. but no luck!, charging up my old phone, just to make sure its not the network that is down
- i have been using the older version i had no problems

lol panic over!!, all seems fine, after taking out the sim card and cleaning it i've got a signal again.

It's still switching the mode in the same way as the previous version...

I find it takes its time when reconnecting; waiting solves it for me. You can try switching the mode again; downgrading (although this won't help, TBH) - use that apt-get line I posted earlier in the thread; or try setting the mode from the Control Panel

It's great applet now that it has all 3 options! But I have another request for 0.4-1. That is "GSM" to be renamed to "2G". I know it's a little thing, but I, for one find 2G vs. 3G more logical than GSM vs. 3G. Then the options would be 2G, 3G, DUAL.

What's changed in 0.4 -> 0.4-1?

Very minor optimisations and it has a fix (used in the loosest sense of the word) for the problem D-livil saw: it now uses ellipses instead of trying to display a long word (like "Dual", in other languages).

I have to say that I have had this problem with this app too - I usually find its great for a couple of switches but then I get absolutely nothing. I don't know if there's anything you'd like posted to try and sort this out?

If I switch manually through settings, the changeover is almost instantaneous and this issue is not seen.

Battery and sim card out and a restart fix it though...

Great app though!

I haven't had any kind of issues like that with the program since the first version. Weird.

What I would love from this application is a fourth option that enables 3G only when there is no wifi connection active. As soon as a wifi connection is established it switches back to 2G. That would provide for maximum high speed connectivity yet still save a bit on battery.
