Should it be necessary, how does a member of TMO cancel their account?
Well you could just not bother using it any more of course or is there some specific reason why you'd like it closed? I can "one-touch ban and clean" you if that's what you want, but that will also remove all your previous posts (and blacklist your IP I imagine).

Well.....here's a fine example of what's wrong with this site. It has taken all these posts to completely fail to answer a simple fscking question.

Yes/No. If yes, how?

To be clear its not a simple question, we don't have people daily asking questions like if I think this place sucks and want to quit, how do I do that. Most people just quietly go away if they find this place is not useful to them. The rest of us who want to be here have not tried to quit, so we again don't know.

I reread the thread several times, I see nowhere you are asking for help with fsck'ing anything? Is your partition corrupt?

Relax Dak. "all these posts" are mainly from people who can't do anything. Lardman said he could handle one account; you would need Reggie to kill your talk account.

It's not something the general community can answer.

I just suspect it just rubs people the wrong way by saying the community forum is going to fail and then on top of that and asking how to cancel the account because you are being nice to the admins.

But to answer the question I don't believe there is a way currently.
Its vBulletin thing.

This post is about that very same thing.

I think the main issue is keeping people user posts, because for better or worse loosing posts because someone removed their account can disrupt the the flow of old topics that might have had useful information in them or have the entire topic removed in the process.

I just googled "Delete account vbulletin" and the short answer was "No. Go die in a fire." or something similar.

The reasoning is it creates a mess... what happens to all the users posts? Do they get changed to a generic nick name "guest"? Then nobody knows who ever said it? Does it go to inactive account with no link? What happens if someone else then registers as "Dak"? Do they get all of your posts and karma now?

There are a few vbulletin addons that allow this feature.. but I can't find any here that look like they've been enabled. Probably with good reason.

ETA: Damn... that many comments in the time it takes to google. Get a life people

Deleting accounts in vBulletin makes a very nasty mess of the database. You can probably have your account locked, if you wish.

But the simplest method is simply to stop coming here. You can delete the site from your bookmarks relatively easily, then change your password to something unmemorable and delete your cookies.

Of course, that won't stop you coming back for a fix if you really want one.

Most forum communities look unfavourably on 'goodbye threads' as they tend to be full of grandstanding by people who never actually do you the courtesy of leaving. Hence people are a little twitchy of the topic.
