Hint -I think you are using 24 or 48px icon as default there. It is abit stretched.. Try the 64px one for a more crisp look..

Thanks, that is more than likely. I still haven't found any good docs on what icon size to include. I'll add the bigger one next.

Hello,

Thanks for the Archived Articles !

Some remarks, I hope that it will help you improve your application:
  1. The downloading process is currently 'blocking' the user. The official RSS reader gives a progress bar at the bottom right which doesn't block the user interaction. Maybe you can use the same approach ?
  2. The 'Stop' button to stop downloading is very slow to act (and sometimes doesn't work at all)
  3. Currently it retrieves the feeds but not the image associated to articles (it only display them when browsing online). An option to also retrieve the images for enhance offline browsing would improve the experience a lot !
  4. Can you add an option to stop the automatic orientation vertical/landscape ? Sometimes (in public transport), it can get quite bumpy and the orientation keeps changing
  5. I use the 'Mark All as Read' and 'Update' buttons very often. Is it possible to define some shortcut or a visible button in addition to the menu button ? Also a 'Mark All as Read' for all feeds will be also quite convenient
  6. The Archive Articles is very convenient ! I didn't thought about adding a new feed 'Archive Articles', but it is quite clever
  7. It seems that I have marked an article to be archived, but after update the feeds got updated and I end up having another article (not sure though, I will confirm this after a few days)
  8. Archive Articles doesn't render well with microB. I tried with some Engadget article and it managed to crash or to render it with black and white squares.
  9. The application keeps crashing for me. Maybe you can add an option to log debug information in a file to send to you in case of crash ? In that case use incremental number in the filename to allow to send multiples files after a heavy days of use !
  10. It is sometimes very hard to open an article in microB by double-clicking on the article title. I wonder if it is me or a problem of the application ?
  11. fbreader use the volume buttons to got to previous/next page. It is very handy ! Maybe you can use a similar approach ?
  12. The 'Back' button is placed at the same place than the 'Close' button. Sometimes I click to fast and ended up closing the application instead of going back. I tried to think to an intuitive way to 'Go back' with gestures, double-tap or any other trick, but I didn't find any...

Thanks again, I use it everyday (and twice per day !) now.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, great to know.

Just to clarify a few of the points:
1) 2) The stop button will wait for the current downloads and processing (at most 3 feeds at a time) to finish before giving back the UI. That's to prevent corruption. It is quite tricky to allow the use of an object while at the same time updating it, without one or the other breaking. That's why the update is currently blocking the UI. But even then, it's not perfect, since that's more than likely what caused 7. So, I'll have to review how to handle all this properly. I agree it's a bit annoying right now.

4) Consider it done, I just ran out of time last night.

8) 9) The HTML widget used, gtkhtml2, is very old, and has a lot of trouble with current dynamic content. Engadget in particular makes it crash when displaying a full page. I'll probably have downloaded articles open up in MicroB itself.

10) I added a "Open in external browser" in the article menu to help with that. The link is very tricky to click on, again because the HTML widget is old and not made for finger use.

Hi Slocan,

Great app! Some feedback i thought of...

1) Some feeds/sites like lewrockwell.com and http://jessescrossroadscafe.blogspot.com/

When i load those feeds in Feedingit i only see the articles titles; i cant see the full article, can you try it out and see if there is a way to make the full article appear? I assume i have to click on the title, but i do click and nothing happens..... I cant seem to click on the links to open articles... Also, i would really like to be able to see those type of articles in Feedingit and not have the full article open in the browser... For some reason lewrockwell and jesse cafe american always need to be opened in a browser, which is kind of annoying....

2) Would really like a way to more easily add feeds, dont want to type long feeds by hand, perhaps point it to the site and have it crawl the site for the feed URL.

3) I entered an incorrect feed URL and it accepted it, feed validation would be a good thing and editing a feed would also be a good thing. ie. if i entered an incorrect feed, i shouldnt have to delete an empty feed, i should be able to fix my feed URL (or better yet, have the app find the feed from the site base URL).

4) Every time i touch text (to scroll up and down) it highlights, i personally find that kind of annoying... It shouldnt really highlight text without a double click or something along those lines, to denote that i really intend to highlight and am not simply scrolling.

5) Autoupdate feeds... Please put options for updating every x hours, on wifi or 2g or 3G, etc...

Thanks for the awesome app, much better looking than the base RSS....

You can use Feedhandler from extras-testing: http://maemo.org/packages/package_in...edhandler/2.2/. With this it's very easy to add feeds from Maemo browser.

0.4.3-1 is now in extras-devel (usual warnings apply about this repository).
* New icons from claesbas!
* Auto-updates of feeds
* Preliminary support for archived articles (it will not try to download css/images anymore, as that makes the app crash)
* Configuration dialog (font size, orientation, auto-updates)
* Expiry of articles based on time, rather than new update content
* Feed updates now happen in the background (a progress bar is shown at the top of the main page). If you're reading a feed/article when the update happens, it will not be updated
* You can edit titles and URLs of feeds in the Organize Feed dialog

Known issue:
- the articles still get the annoying selection when scrolling
- No "Mark all feeds as read" in the main menu

@karim0028: The 2 sites you mentioned contain very little data in their RSS feed beside the title, and a very short description. If you can't click on the link very well, you can use the "Open in browser" button in the menu (only in the version in extras-devel for now). In that version, you can also try to add the articles you want to read into the "Archived Articles", which will download the full text in a new feed. It's not perfect, but should be readable for those sites.

Icon now looks crips! Should I make it a little bit more orange? to connect to other RSS icosn more? .. Now its abit to pack-man perhaps ?

I finally got to test this new version. I have som graphic bugs och the "firstpage". It is as if it stretches the buttons to 100% width (or height in portrait) and by doing so the button graphics gets looped several times in side one button. check screens...

I quite like the current look of the icons. We could see what a bit more orange look like but I don't mind the pacman feel.

As for your screens, I have no idea what could do that... I don't really know what to tell you, looks like the background images of the buttons are not scaling properly, but that has never happened to me. They are basic hildon.Button with a height of gtk.HILDON_SIZE_FINGER_HEIGHT. If you got into the Preferences, are they doing the same thing?

I've noticed It happen when you have less than 6 feeds.
