You'll need to install xterm to open a command shell. Then you'll use the gconftool-2 utility as described to extend the list of available timeouts for display dimming and blanking.
Further down the thread, you'll also find a daemon that maintains separate display setttings for battery and AC powered operation. Note that if you select a blank interval of 0 seconds (having already added that option to the menu), the display will remain on until you manually disable it or run out of power, whichever comes first...
