I have been listening to some audio books in Panucci and was dismayed that it couldn't open files found in hidden directories (those that start with a ".".) Searching around I found this very interesting bug report:

https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7540

As you can see Darren is trying to modify a config file in order to add a directory to the list of directories that tracker excludes from being indexed. Unfortunately, Darren is having all kinds of trouble with this (and I am not about to mess up my N900 by fiddling with that file). The good news is that his report has brought to light several folders that are already being excluded. I decided to use the ~/MyDocs/.sounds/Ringtones/ directory as a test. I placed a directory with several MP3 audio books in it and restarted the tracker processes using this method:

tracker-processes -r

Once it finished I checked and sure enough, none of the audio books showed up in the Media Player, but now I can access them trough Panucci just fine. I hope this helps someone.

PS: I was able to modify the config file mentioned above just fine to add a directory to the ignore list. I believe that Darren's problem might have occurred due to using Windows Notepad as the editor. It is a well known fact that Notepad does not play well with standard ASCII files. Just use a standard text editor. On the N900 you can use Leafpad, for example.
