Has curl been ported to maemo? I have located repositories with curl and libculrs, but when I apt-get install curl, I get a message that it can't install it (yes I'm root here). I wonder if someone could walk me through the installation if possible - reasonably OK with linux command line.

On a related point, when I enable a new repository in the app manager, and I refresh the installable applications, etc. although everything seemed to go OK adding a new repository, nothing new shows up in the installable apps. Any help?

Hoping I can resurrect this thread. I have encountered the same thing as dannemil. I have found the cURL download at http://curl.haxx.se/download.html but am unable to install it. Does anyone know what the compatibility issues are?

What file, exactly, did you try to install?

This information is greatly appreciated to help you out.

Maemo's source package for curl is heavily butchered - it will only build the libs; not the curl program itself.

Nokia were generous and gave you maemo-mini-curl. But, maemo-mini-curl is as mini as it gets... Put it this way: busybox's (possible/future/already done/never going to happen?) implementation of curl would beat it...

I've considered many a time of making the source package produce a curl binary but I remember wget is available.

wget is also a powerful tool and can do much of the things that curl can do. The developer of curl, Daniel Stenberg, is a friend of mine and an extremely talented developer. I don't want to recommend anyone _not_ use his software, but in this case I think you'll find wget will meet your needs.

Do you use wget as a library as well? For instance, I'm thinking about writing a Fremantle/Qt app for doing some Insteon control in my house and I'll want to make http requests to a server running on my network. I had assumed I'd be using easy cURL, but maybe I should use wget instead?
