This is an interesting thread indeed, and has got me brainstorming some cool ideas myself. I think I'll have to whip up some new sketches...stay tuned.

Okay, here's my idea of a unique phone companion concept for the Internet Tablets. It would function a lot like how the Samsung Upstage works with one button mode switching between the bluetooth thumb board/text messaging and normal phone instances.

Excellent! But I think you didn't go far enough. I would do a "folding" one. That is the phone opens like a clamshell, but their is no screen inside.
Closed: small B&W screen, basic phone keypad.
Opened: complete keyboard.

But why do you want to switch from BT thumb board to phone? Why not the two working at the same time?

What I fear is that you can not have at the same time on BT:
- The N800 paired with the phone for control (start / stop com, edit contact, send SMS)
- The phone paired with the N800 as "BT keyboard"
- The N800 or a BT headset paired with the phone as "BT headset".

Hey Nokia, this thread ROCKS!

Thanks for the critique, and I think I know what you're getting at. I'm gonna sketch up another concept soon too. A clamshell keyboard/mobile phone is a good idea. I like the E70 design, but I think it could be simplified a bit more. Stay tuned for my next sketch...

Here is the clamshell concept I came up with. Of course the keyboard layout would be laid out a bit different, but you all should get the idea. For those that missed the first concept, here's that one again too.

If only it were that simple...

I wouldn't even mind if a device maker "borrowed" from my concepts to actually build such a companion to the Internet Tablets and other mobiles in need of one. Just as long as I get a little credit for the initial artwork.

I don't know when I'll have another "gap" in my schedule to draw up more device ideas, but I definitely enjoy doing them every time and will be thinking up some new ones all the time.
