Call me stupid, I picked up an n770 at a flea market today. Seemed to power up fine, and in the sunlight, I couldn't see the colored lines. Great.

I power it up in the car but since the power adapter was wonky, it would only come on for a few seconds, then die.

Bought a new adapter on the way home. Looking forward to playing with the gadget. 'Twasn't to be.

Got home, power it up - now I see (maybe they were there all along, maybe not - I never saw them before) gross green streaks going vertically from the 'Nokia' logo during boot - and there's a wrench/fix icon.

Here's the thing. It doesn't seem like 'typical' WSOD from what I can gather here, since the system works fine. It's just ugly as sin, with green and grey lines going up and down depending on what's on the screen. In monochrome mode, it looks almost perfect. In Green mode, it's nassssty (as Cleveland would say).

So, is it really WSOD? Am I SOL? Would Nokia even bother fixing this, and would it cost $$$? With these things going for just a bit over $100 on ebay, why even bother?

I'm going to try flashing the ROM. We'll see, I guess. I don't hold out much hope.

The wrench (spanner where I come from!) icon means it's in R&D mode - not a cause of the screen problems and easy to take out of R&D mode using the Linux flasher.

It does sound like you have a WSOD problem - a repair by Nokia is your only hope, best to contact them and see if it's still covered by warranty.
