Texrat didn't actually say that it related to the suggestion that it was OpenGL support - just that the comment about the casual user not really noticing it was the best clue...

I didn't say the right answer-- just the right clue.

EDIT: Mysticode is one sharp cookie. Although, "not noticing" may be a little inaccurate...

By any chance you are not referring to the SDHC support? I already told the next firmware DOES support SDHC cards.

Nah. Bigger than that to certain people.

Okay, so "not noticing" may be a little inaccurate ... you said "the casual user won't have much awareness of them". I take this to mean that there is importance in the concept of awareness versus noticing. Hmm, have to think on this.

P.S. Texrat, some people may find this frustrating but I am enjoying your little game...

Ok, Here is my take of what would I spect if Maemo wanna succeed:

a) 3D-like fancy interface. That doesn't necessary means 3d as the cube in X-Windows, but some efects like translucid menues or some good looking scrolling would be nice.
3D is an important point here. The only big diference between N770 and N800 was that N800 had 3d in its video system.
At least it was the only difference that could make nokia decide to split the system into two OS2006 and OS2007.
I think it is clear (while not admited) that Nokia could have some info about apple cool interface before public anouncement, so new dinamic interface could became a must to.

b) Fully touchable interface. This one is the easier to be done and I think it is absolutely necessary. You shouldn't have to need using your stylus for anything but to very specific actions. The video player, the audio player, etc should be fully touchable. It is only a matter of redefining display templates and/or generating a double template that is called depending on what have been used, hand or pen.

c) What i really would expect from Nokia in order to make sure N800 becames a first tier product is total conection with your Nokia phone.

That means being able to connect to it to edit your contacts, to call and talk, to see and download your pictures, your calendar, your ToDos, alarms, to listen to its music,...

An iPhone divided in two. On one side the big iPhone sized Internet Tablet that connects via bluetooth to your phone and makes extensive use of bluetooth protocols so you can use it as a real full featured phone. On the other side the little phone that rarely goes out of your pocket but that is there so you don't have to carry your big iPhone/Internet Tablet when you go Out.

The Internet Tablet as a Phone extender. That I would like to see.

d) More comunity driven apps into the firmware version of the system. It makes no sense you have to install ssh, vnc, smb or mc after a clear install of the system. The increase of MB that a good selection of software would mean is less important that the power the normal-user system would have.
