just purchased my n810 from an ebay seller about 1 month ago and i really enjoy working with it.

can itunes be downloaded on to the device? or is there some way to buy tracks from there without downloading the program? i've been googling this for a while this morning and i haven't gotten any solid answers.

i've started reading on the web browser fennec and i'm considering installing. i'm trying to find something a little better than what's already installed onto the machine.

thoughts? suggestions? thanks.

web browsers on N810 : Many, just play and pick what you like.

I think the Rhapsody program was supposed to be an app that links to a music store, but I never tried it. If you really want iTunes, I think it will have to be on your desktop.

If you want to buy music on your desktop and sync it onto your N810, the most straightforward way is probably to get some desktop program that syncs to a USB device / MP3 player, like Songbird. (I'm assuming that iTunes will only sync with Apple MP3 players -- I actually don't use it.) You have to figure out how to plug your N810 into your computer (search the Maemo wiki for instructions) & hopefully Songbird will recognize it as a device it can write to.

For media players, YouAmp is the most straightforward. Canola and MediaBox have eye candy and lots of add-ons.

For podcasts & audiobooks, I like gPodder + Panucci + mygpodder.org. You can sync your list of podcasts between gPodder on the device and mygpodder.org and then other devices if you want. You can also discover feeds on your desktop, add them to mygpodder.org, and sync them to your device. Snazzy. Amazingly, Panucci is the only media player I know of where you can create a bookmark, close the program, reopen the program, and resume listening where you left off, which is a must for audiobooks.

Re: browsers, first of all if you find a browser you like other than the pre-installed one (MicroB), you will want to get the Browser Switchboard program that allows you to change which browser various programs launch by default.

I have tried Fennec / Firefox Mobile and didn't like it. It was a bit sluggish, which nullified all its pluses for me. If I add extensions, I though, it will run even slower! Also, although I am a Firefox tabaholic on the desktop, I found I didn't like tabs on an Internet Tablet. When the browser got bogged down, it was too slow to switch between them or close them. But feel free to give it a try.

I mostly use Tear (see link in my sig). It's pretty fast (WebKit-based). Every once in a while, though, it doesn't load a page properly and I need to load that page in MicroB. Also, don't press DPad left in an edit box--it might hang Tear & you'll lose what you're typing. Midori is another WebKit option.
