Hey everyone!
I'm new here, and will be a Nokia N900 owner in about a week.

I was just wondering if it would be possible to use the N900 as a mobile storage device for DSLR camera's.

I know there is a RAW viewer http://maemo.org/downloads/product/Maemo5/mrawviewer/

But would it be possible to directly connect a DSLR to the N900 in some way and just copy the files to the phone?

I've asked on the Eye-Fi (which I have and love) forum whether someone could code an app for Maemo/Meego for it. The feedback I got was that it should not be too difficult, but haven't seen anyone talk about it here. I forget now if I mentioned my request here in any of the threads. Perhaps I'll start a request thread for that.

And what would be possible connectivity options? Can't find any mini-usb -> micro-usb cables :P

I own a Canon EOS 350D which still uses CF-cards, newer camera's that use SD cards wouldn't be too hard. Just use an SD card that houses a micro-SD card.

The Eye-Fi card sends the pics to your destined computer (in this case it would be the N900) over WiFi. No cables needed.

Incredibly convenient. Being able to do that with the N900 would be great to be able to carry some pics of loved ones with me even more easily when I travel, and, perhaps more imporantly, never run out of SD card space in the camera when out and about (being able to just load some to the N900 and free up space on the card).

Ah I see! That seems like an easy option, only problem (for me) is that my camera still uses CF cards. Would it at all be possible using cables?

That needs to be answered by someone who knows this stuff better, but I think _probably_ not as, AFAIK, the N900 cannot act as "USB host" if I get the terminology right. There may be some work around to it, and you may want to try to search the forums with "USB host" or something like that.

I'm afraid the usb connector on the N900 isn't able to act as a host, so I guess I'll just need to buy a new camera :P

Then either add Eye Fi card or add an sd to micro sd adapter in teh sd to cf adapter then you could just remove the midosd and hot swap straight into the N900?

I've done this with a normal camera. It is possible if you use an external device like this one which I used. It just copies files and works very well. I've copied >1 GB from a normal camera to N900's external microSD card without problems.

This thingy is very cheap so you can try it without loosing anything.

Of course, it should also copy anything between two usb devices (e.g. N900 and usb stick or camera and usb stick).

NOTE: This is not related to what other threads say about making N900 usb-host. The usb-host in this case is that simple device.
