Also it seems the surrounding plastic around the keyboard has been fixed on this unit. the one I had before the platic around the keyboard was very loose.

I was mad (Still am...lol)

So i took it to Vodafone because its insured, and now they are sending it to their Vodafone repairs team to fix, otherwise they'll send me a new handset.

Had the joy of backing up all my files with my spare battery so feeling slightly better.
Someone has mentioned that when you restore the back-up it won't install the apps only provides a list of them

If thats the case, its gonna be a long day installing all those apps again!?!

Just have to wait 2weeks before the whole thing gets resolved!

Nokia have to sort this problem out, because alot more people are gonna have this problem. I used to follow this thread even when my phone was fine, and i was extremely cautious about how i handled the device. Wasn't prepared for my foot getting caught in the wire.

If anyone needs advice...get insurance with your mobile operator just in case Nokia screw you over and don't support the repair....it wouldn't be the first time Nokia has screwed with you, so learn from others mistakes!
Just to give you guys an update on my situation. I went to vodafone store today to pick up my phone/replacement because i was told it was ready for collection. When i arrived the lady said they didn't have a replacement phone instore nor in surrounding stores within radius, so they've booked a courier to deliver a new phone on monday in a swap and exchange. So come monday i'll be waiting at my front door from 8.30 - 5.30pm for the courier van

I had done a back-up of all my files/images/pictures and also a back-up via the app on the n900 before i sent it off. Does anyone know whether i can restore the apps all do i have to manually install it all over again?

Thanks,

If you have the backup files then you can do a restore including all apps (they'll get redownloaded and reinstalled). This should preserve all the settings, but some apps are failing to add their settings files to the backup list.

I know for sure that angry birds doesn't. Going by what I've got installed that doesn't have an entry in /etc/osso-backup/applications, I'd guess that these also don't:

batlevel
bounce
fm radio
office viewer
petrovich
prismic wm
quickpanaroma
recorder
solitaire
supertux
tunewiki
zoutube

These I don't have installed so can't say:
