with usb connected with computer but without battary installed

can 900 be turned on?

No it won't be at all. Try it and find out.

no there is a possibility i have done, with help of some cable (it differs from each model, its available with all server center guys) ,you can remove the batter and plug the cable where the battery gets contacted.
When its done, the phone can be switched on and work with it normally ,the phone will assume its running with the help of the charger

the method i mentioned in possible in most of the nokia phones,coz this is only way dead phones are brought back to life.

what about if I plug the mini usb into the n900 and the other end into a grapefruit?

Good idea! I will also try to plug it into a hamster on a wheel
