First and foremost, why is everything in "British" format? all the times are displayed relative to GMT, my skype credit is listed in euros...what gives?

sounds like your system might be setup for UK. Mine did this with the time and date when I first got it. Check in the control panel for Language and region. Make sure it's set to English(USA)

Is there an applet for skype contacts so you know when a contact is online? Mine doesn't show who's online unless I open skype. And it doesn't do auto boot up after the tablet boots up like in my pc.

I would login to the www.skype.com website, and check your account settings there. As soon as you login there's a Payments heading towards the bottom of the page. It tells you what currency your set to.

Since skype is p2p, if I have it running in the background all the time, all the p2p connections will keep using the network, and eat away battery power right? Does anyone know how this works on the n800?

I'm thinking this may be why they don't have it autostart at boot.
