Is your N900 in 'silent' mode? :-)

first of all, you don't need to type tracker-status at all.

and then you don't type espeak then press enter...

you type

espeak "hello world"

then press enter.

hope that helps.

Right now I've been trying to use flite with maemo-mapper, and when it wants to say turn directions, the device squeaks a bit. I'd almost guess it's just a really speed-up version of what its trying to say.

If I type the following, it comes out perfectly clear. But just using the built in "play" functionality, it fails. Since I'm pretty sure maemo-mapper calls libflite directly, the only solution will be to fix flite. But I don't see a project or garage for it anywhere.

Code:
Works:
echo "Hello there" | flite -o - | play-sound -

Fails:
echo "Hello there" | flite

Probably best if you just watch this video.

One of the best movie scenes ever made.

For those that are interested, I found a hacky solution to get flite working on the N900 for now. I'd love a real solution though.

espeak -ven+f1
- female voice 1 (f1 to f4 available)

espeak -ven+m1
- male voice 1 (m1 to m7 available)

try
espeak -ven+whisper which is really scary sounding

See here to see the HUGE amount of options for this.
