Hey All,
Noticed an issue with my phone so today I put it in for repair, for a few weeks now I have been speaking to people on my phone and telling them "speak up" & "your phones not working properly" & "you've got a bad line" & "i dont think you have good signal because i got full signal mate" .....anyway, just realised today that its me, when I hold my phone to my ear and if the speaker area touches my ear sometimes it makes a crackling noice and the volume drops a lot so I can hardly hear the person speaking ... went to CF warehouse to get repair done instore on warantee (was hoping it was just a connecter needed pushing in a bit more) but they have said they are gonna send it to Nokia for repair .
. ... 2 weeks its gonna be without my N900 ... its gonna kill me if Nokia release firware update and i aint got my N900 to find out all the new features

Anyw

Please report back when they tell you what's going on. I had the same problem pre 1.1.1 firmware. After the update though I haven't had this problem. But I'm curious if it is a software or hardware problem. Got a feeling it's just lying dorment for the moment. Meaning it's got a bad connection or something.

Would like to get some official say finally!

it was the hardware for certain, I tested it by when i was speaking to someone gently moving the phone from:
not touching my ear but so close i could hear it (perfect audio quality)
to touching my ear (bad audio quality)
then from touching ear to not touching ear and so on (bad audio quality when touching my ear)
it seemed like there must be a loose wire or connection just inside the earpiece to the earpiece speaker??
so definatly a hardware problem!

While my n900 is in for repair i am using my previous phone N95 8GB .... ohhhh how I mis this phone, in many ways it beats the N900 for usability ... hard key press for contacts and messages, 1-9 fast dials and many more little things!
That being said I miss my N900 .... I keep trying to press the screen of my N95 8GB to select and use stuff but as hard as i press it doesnt work!

woooo hooooo ... phones back!
theyve reinstalled the firmware though so now I'm gonna have to spend hours and hours downloading apps and widgets and themes to make it my own again ... happy days!
