Nokia has not committed to supporting Google via MfE. For example, I can sync calendar over MfE, but I cannot sync contacts. This may change in PR 1.2, or it may not.

The real solution is supposed to be SyncEvolution, but I have not yet tried to get it to work. If someone has a quick how-to for that, please post one!

SyncEvolution works for Contacts (just had to clean up the mess first time)
Erminig-ng does multiple calendar sync (just not birthdays yet)
Modest works with gmail just fine with pop/imap

two points to note:
  • 1. if you are in the UK or Germany, it might be worth trying @googlemail.com instead of @gmail.com
  • 2. if that fails, try putting the word "google" in the domain box.

both of these depend on when you set up your account. early gmail accounts from the Beta days are different to later accounts.

it works fine for me using the current firmware on my N900. settings as I said before. not sure why it isn't working for others?? my contacts and calendar all sync with the google cloud, which also sync to thunderbird on my PC. as far as im concerned, it all works seamlessly - like other cloud services but for free. it really might be worth changing the above two points

I just can approve that. I also setup the "Google cloud" and all is working fine! I really like it, east and smooth. All up to date, no matter from where you maKe your entries. I´ve connected Thunderbird on my Windows PC, iCal on my MacBook and the N900.
