Sometimes N900 doesn't activate the charging mode when connected. Happens rarely though. Watch for the yellow light...

IIRC, if you leave it plugged in the N900 will drain battery when it's fully loaded, I remember seeing some charts. Anyway, plugging the charger out and reconnecting should fix this.
EDIT: I have no idea why it would do that though.

yep this happens to my with my travel charger next to my bed if the batt is very low or about to go dead i plug it in to the wall charger its away charging then 5mins later it just goes batt low low low then shuts down but this does not happen if plugged into the pc charging. wonder why this happens? maybe cuz its a travel charger?.

I noticed that for some old Nokia chargers (using adapter to N900) my N900 indicates charging, but actually it is not.
Trying another charger helped though.
