Hello,

I found this community task: http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:File_hosting_on_maemo.org

Until it is implemented is it any way to host few big project files in some public maemo place and download them using my application by user request?

Thanks,
FlGor.

What sort of files, and how big, are you wanting hosting for?

Hi,

So my application on extra-devel is around 20M.
But for some special cases it needs some additional files. These files( 35 ) are around 200M(total). But not all of files are used by all the application users, so i don't want to put all the files in the deb.

I want to let the users download them if they consider they need the extra files. I need a public place to put the extra files.

I wanted to know if there is a public place on maemo where i can save these files.

Please someone, help me with my problem.

So i have an application in extras-devel. I have some files related with the application. The application knows how to download the files.

All i need is a http place where i can host the files.

Is there any place where i can host these files? I don't mean some free/payed host service.

I need something that is related with maemo, garage. (something like this task: http://wiki.maemo.org/Task:File_hosting_on_maemo.org )
Is this possible?

Thanks,
FlGor

It you could say what the application was and what the files are, then maybe someone will be able to help.

Hi,

Part of the application is a dictionary.
For every language it is a different file. At start, when the application is installed from .deb, the dictionary has just 6 languages.

I have an option to let users download the other languages if they consider they need them.

For languages like cn, jpn, ind, etc these files are big ( 40Mb ). The rest of the languages are like 2M.

I try to find a place to host all the language files.
Hope this brings a little more light. So is there any place on maemo where i can save all my files and where the users can have access to download them?

Cheers,
FlGor

Perhaps you should create separate packages for the languages in the repository.

So, I download your app from Extras-Devel, and if I want another language, I install a separate package which sets it up.

I think this should be a workable solution for you.

Making the language files as debs is indeed the best solution.
As you can see I did it for noor (although the language files are much smaller - the concept is the same)
