The main reason for purchasing my 770 was for use as a portable media centre.

I've now got it set up nicely with all the apps, bookmarks, streams etc that I want.

My problem is that I wont always have internet access so I'd like to use a 2nd MMC for video and MP3.

This means I'd have to boot from the internal flash to access these as I'm currently booting from the MMC.

The problem is that my internal flash is just the basic OS with only the apps needed to get me dual booting.

To save me having to spend several days setting up the internal flash to mimic my setup, is there a way of cloning the MMC OS to the internal one?

An added benefit would be that if anything went wrong with the MMC, I'd have a backup of my system.

Best idea would be to bite the bullet and do things the "normal" way - that is, install your apps on the internal flash and use the MMC for your media.

You'll waste a lot more time and effort trying to clone your MMC OS to the internal flash than you would installing apps to internal flash.... I can't believe it would take you "several days" to install some applications (unless maybe you've got DB2 running on your little fella).

Yes you can do it. Search this forum for 'mkfs.jffs2' or 'flash_eraseall' or 'sumtool'.

You can do it either in the naive way - i.e. boot from mmc, erase (=reformat) internal flash and then mount it and copy via tar just like you did it before in the other direction. However the best (and fastest) is to directly make jffs2 image from mmc filesystem and then flash it to internal flash while booted from mmc or via nokia linux flasher over usb.

In the same way you can also make jffs2 (=directly flashable) backups of internal flash.

check also my initfs flasher http://fanoush.wz.cz/maemo/initfs_flasher.tgz , all backup to jffs2 steps (except optional sumtool step) are done inside the initfs_flash script when backing up original initfs. Also all needed mtd-utils binaries are included.

Turns out the OS on the MMC is just over 200Mb so no way will it be able to clone to the internal flash.

well, internal flash uses compression, you have tried and the final compressed jffs2 image is really over 128MB?
