do you ever want to "pimp up" the style your Nokia 770? here is the way...

you will find the necessary pictures in the directory "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/". in this directory you will find many icons. Maybe, its the source for more costumisation...

read here what i did for changing the boot logo:
  • the boot logo is named "/usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/hildon/qgn_indi_nokia_hands.png"
  • you can modify or change the picture by any other pic, but take care that you name the picture qgn_indi_nokia_hands.png with the right resolution, format and color depth.
  • its a good idea to save the old logo eg: "qgn_indi_nokia_hands-old.png"
  • Size: 800x480
  • Resolution: 72p/in
  • Format: PNG

Is there any way to replace these files without being root? They seem to be read only when I look at them via Fiie Manager.

Nope, you have to be root to modify these system files. Check the Maemo.org wiki on how to get root access.

How do you hack yourselves into those directories?

I figured out a way to browse the folders via web browser, but that means read only. Is there some option in File manager I havent found out?

xterm: use a command line to fully access the file system

...plus midnight commander (MC) if you don't know your way around a Linux command line shell. You need to be "root", also. There be danger here for the unwary :-)

Is it possible to gain root access in xterm then launch file manager from xterm?

Well, changing the logos is a bit hard to do for a weekend. Need to read up more on root passwords, etc.

Time to surf!
