Symbian Signed is dead??? Finally??

Symbian may have some life left in it yet. I won't be buying a Symbian device nor suggesting it to my friends though.

http://appwizard.ovi.com/

Seems to be an iPhone-like way to package web-content into an "app" via RSS - lame, but

a) will the resulting "app" work on the N900?
b) has anyone tried?
c) shouldn't mameo.org have an app for that of that kind? Like RSS-Feeds of http://maemo.org/news/ and /downloads? Not that anyone needs it, but as a matter of principle

I don't get the point of this wizard. Doesn't this force Ovi to host millions of senseless feed-apps (which may even cost something)?

What do you mean. It's sensless feed-apps that make app stores successful! Of course Ovi wants as many of those as possible.

And might I add, the appwizard is awesome! And we REALLY should have this for maemo, imo.

Hmm, but then they should make the Ovi store more filterable/browsable. I also dislike the apple app store because it contains so much ******** and you can't even filter out the good applications.

Why would anyone pay for a app which only shows you rss news?

It's not an American thing unfortunately - I hear it here in Austria, too. An it really, really, really upsets me if "gay" is being used as an adjective for anything from "crappy" to "miserable". I'm far from being "politically correct", but you know... It's me you're talking about! - Apologies accepted anyway. Just think next time, please. We're in the room while you speak.

But still, it makes a lot of money.

... plus may even bring unwanted ads to your phone?

I don't know - but that's how it seems to work. The whole iPhone industry is built on that. You may not know, but we even have applications in Extras-something (devil or test, don't know) that don't do anything but open the streaming URL of a web radio in the Media Player.

I don't know - I wouldn't want to use it, because I browse the web anyway. But a lot of people - especially those with devices that don't have good browsers, such as an old S60 with very small screen or an iPhone - will prefer to browse their "app-store" and discover an "app" that brings exactly the same content as other people see in the web browser. It's all a matter of preference and learned usage patterns, isn't it?

Is this just a way for Nokia to say in a couple of days that they now have 10,000 "apps" in their Ovi store? Cause you know there will be 10K useless feed apps in a couple of days.
