you buy a device, you get what's in the box. that's what you pay for. whatever comes then - third party apps, firmware updates,.... - can happen, may happen, will most likely happen. but: there's no way you could actually *expect* it.

so when you bought your phone thinking there'll be this update for bug fixes and then that update for new features etc, you're bound to be disappointed.
There was no such expectation when the mobiles were simple and nobody even knew there was something like an OS to control its functions. The problem begun when we started saying "I will reboot my phone" instead of "turn off/on". In a few months/years probably we will hear people complaining about the release of a FW upgrade for their cars, which may bring an option to increase the acceleration by tuning the fuel injection system...

that's basically what i wanted to say - except for the ussd part, of course. it would be really, really strange for a person who needs ussd to buy the one phone that won't support it, hopoing that a later update might fix it.

some similar views, yes. i like him - he's very straightforward. i like what he says and i absolutely love the way how he says it. compare his speeches and interviews to this nonsense and you'll see why.

i don't share his fetish for touch devices, though. he should really stop that.

@benny: ok, it came out quite wrong then

so how does a buyer know that the phone doesnt support USSD?
afaik there's not a single gsm phone that advertise that feature, because it's part of gsm's specification.

Well, the news on the front page basically said that pr 1.2 is delayed indefinitely as far as my reading comprehension skills are concerned.

Anyone willing to bet me something that it won't be released in June?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that there were bugs in Maemo 4 (N8x0) that were fixed by Nokia........but never released. Just because an employee assumes something doesn't make it true. Companies change their plans all the time.

At this point in time, my faith in PR1.2 is slowly seeping away, faith in PR1.3 is disturbingly lacking.

could definitely teach nokia a little about communicating with us.

Very good. You get a star on that^ one...

As far as leak or RC goes, from the screenshots that I saw of a Hong Kong release, from comparing notes with a purchaser, and the timing of the "leak" I'm going to go out on a limb and say this version was not leaked at all. (see THIS and then THIS)

It is possibly the actual firmware that shipped with the Hong Kong release and is pro'ly sitting on a Nokia server that can be accessed by owners of a HK release with the right product ID. <just spec. and not known fact.)

And to respond to geneven's statement from awhile back:..

Portrait browsing will be much better from what I have seen and heard. Instead of a just a viewer like we have now, you are able to navigate away from the page (back) and access the desktop with out first having to revert back to landscape. This all can now be done one handed in portrait mode on the HK version from what I'm told.
If, as someone mentioned earlier, they are working on even more browser improvements before releasing the full, or global PR 1.2; my speculation would be on including a portrait on screen key board to complete the portrait browser experience.

And finally back to benny1967, our man in Vienna...

I'm thinkin' the same thing. The room may be needed for the HK release to be able to upgrade and: what has changed since the HK release was built...

Code:
Name: RX-51_2009SE_10.2010.12-9_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin
Date Modified: 3/31/2010 11:31 AM
Type: BIN file
Size: 182,745 KB
...is qgil's statement that MeeGo will now be an upgrade.
option for the N900.

YoDude, I wouldn't state that so casually. It could be misinterpreted as official Nokia support with Maps and everything.
