As an ex-N900 user I'm interested to see where this device goes, I won't be surprised if it ends up on the Nokia scrap heap, abandoned by Nokia and all.

I sold it before the price really fell (Got £350 for it), was bored of waiting for updates, lack of useful apps, fiddly web browser, stalls, terrible email app to name a few gripes. My Jailbroke iPhone has a brilliant multi-task Palm-Pre type app on it, and can do pretty much whatever I need it to do with minimal fuss.

Would like to have a play with a HTC Desire though.

No doubt.

Just gotta chime in... I do own an iPhone 3GS but frequent these halls hoping that MeeGo (formerly Maemo) will release yet another tablet or that the N900 will deliver the last few things that I want in a phone.

This place is the best place for that kind of info. Can't look at Gizmodo or Engadget for that kind of stuff. They sorta dislike Nokia, it seems.

They just love Apple. Since they're US based organizations that makes (some) sense. Well, I'm thinking Gizmodo might not love Apple now that Apple sent the Imperial Storm Troopers to illegally size information from one of their reporters, but who knows. Apple love knowns no bounds

I am sorry for not mentioning the subject of that link. That link provides steps to watch Vodafone mobile TV on N900 media-player.

I really don't want to start a troll war or anything, but seriously dude, you just can't compare an iPhone with the N900. The software on the iPhone is stable, the touchscreen is a helluva lot better. and the N900 has like, what, 5 useful apps, not to mention now the N900 is the one without real MMS which the iPhone now has (and don't give me any BS about pMMS or whatever its called).

When an iPhone troll comes on TMO, just ignore him, cause you're not gonna win by comparing the N900 to the iPhone. I switched from an iPhone to the N900, but even I know when to pick my battles.

I could never forsee a day in which a prime Nokia device will be relegated while HTC ones are highly promoted. Oh how the Mighty have fallen.

I hope the N8 reverts this software disease that Nokia cannot seem to shake off. For sure my N900 is powerful but whats the point of all the multitasking etc if it fails to handle a phone call under heavy load. Come on Nokia gwt it together and reward our loyalty. You make great hardware ut software sucks - N900 media player is a tear jerker, browser is ok but not very stable, memory leaks etc. If your developers are too lazy then outsource the work or something. Test properly, do thorough QA and then release. Stop damaging your well earned brand.

Is there a saboteur / apple guy in your management who is making these bad calls, if so, root him out and fire him. Dont forget, I was not born with a Nokia phone in my pocket.

Peace

and whose idea was it to implement such a ridiculous real to virtual memory ratio - 256 to 768MB on such a multitasking system. My N900 struggles when a call comes through while its got a lot in swap memory, CPU is too busy doing thrashing to service call UI. Surely this has to change in future - stick more RAM in there Nokia. The N900 should have at least 512MB

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paging

To decrease excessive paging, and thus possibly resolve thrashing problem, a user can do any of the following:

* Increase the amount of RAM in the computer (generally the best long-term solution).
* Decrease the number of programs being concurrently run on the computer.

More RAM would be nice. I dont see anything wrong with the ratio though.

im sure nokia will update and do everything that everybody is disappointed about in here in regards to memory and multitasking- with their next phone-sorry, tablet, running on the next maemo. I would wait at least a year or two to fully judge the n900 on its lack of maemo 5 applications (despite maemo in general being around since 2005 and the iphone os since 2007). When the n900s price has been radically reduced (far below the £100 mark!) by the high st stores there surely may be more interested in developing software for it. The only problem there is that it may be much longer than 2 yrs before standard mobiles can do everything that the n900 can do, if ever implemented, so interest may never be big enough, so price may never get to that level. The kids with the cash may almost always go for the iphone, lol, since its the one with the greatest marketing/advertising skills When did you see the last nokia tv advert that was specifically for the n900??
