I think it boils down to the fact that most users are gona be using mp3's or aac's for ringtones or use such sites as http://www.makeownringtone.com/ as we have a decent browser on the device to make our own ringtones.

mapper is quite a good google maps replacement and if you want voice navigation then you could try sygic,

dont know about disconnecting of your 3g, have you posted about this problem before?

and MMS has been sorted by the fmms app as already stated.

Hope you keep your N900 as you really have something special there in your hand. (and that should be the only thing in your hand while surfing the internet...)

Cheers

Edit:
Just found this nice article: http://maemoarena.com/2010/05/fmms-f...n-ui/#more-449

as for mapping:
google maps is perfectly possible in the browser, latitude included. In the repositories (catalogues) you will find emerillon map viewer and maep, with google maps, OpenStreetMap, OpenCycle Map, Public transport, Virtual Earth, including satellite view.
And easypark for use in cities as a pedestrian. Map buddy is available, OSM2go, ecoach for managing sport activities, GPXview (and others) for geocaching. For recording your tracks (and geolocate your photos) there is GPS datalogger widget.
For perfect voice guided turn-by turn navigation, use Sygic mobile maps (paid).
For a free application, nokia maps 1 calculates your routes, without voice guidance, quite good.
More apps are under development, like QLandkarte M.

For MMS, there is fMMS.
For apps, there are the repos.
If you couldn't find out these by yourself in months, go sell it and leave us.

BTW, if you want something to show off, buy a Ferrari or something like that.

Wow. The OP didn't exactly start off on the right foot, but all y'all had to do was point him to fMMS and the rest would have been ok instead of straight attacking.

fMMS - start here

I think you need to add Extras for the Python package you're lacking... do you know which dependency you're lacking?

fMMS - that will allow you to send MMS. About your network woes, have you talked to your phone provider to see if they're having problems with other customers? I found out that I'm like near a "dead zone" despite being in-between two cell towers. It just "happens" sometimes.

I's right - we are not cool. but only think that every new user would write post like that (most people actually do) and it's 1) disturbing and 2) instead of usefull threads other new people come to threads like that through search.
My advice is to read and search (believe me that most of questions you have were asked before). there are a lot of ifno on site (wiki for example contains info about fmms and mms) and forum itself. as well there is uncle Google, he is really more kindhearted than us - he always answer any question you ask - just you have to know how to ask.

Tony,

There are a lot of well meaning and very helpful people on this forum. Unfortunately, their voices tend to be drowned out by patronising, *****ic idiots who appear to get annoyed by everyone who's not as tech savvy as they are. Think similar to the comic store owner from the Simpsons.

Of course the music player does! Did you EVER try the menu of the music player???? (Or read the manual or try the SEARCH in this forum) Have fun, it's the best mobile device ever.

What's the matter with you guys? Telling people off doesn't help! Are you angry with those posters or with something else? The first reply could have answered all questions and I could have closed/renamed/moved this thread... right away.

Please be friendly to the not so tech-savvy folks coming here and ask (well questions all over again) simple questions. Speaking for myself the search engine of tmo isn't of the lucky kind and the power search does not help sometimes too.

To the OP:

Welcome to TMO, I hope all your questions are answered by now.
We can not convince you to keep the phone but the people here are right! Why did you buy the phone in the first place? I do a lot of research for stuff $500+ before I even think about buying.

You did not get close to maemo.org yet and that was a mistake, the wiki is full of useful information about shortcuts, HowTos and other stuff. The forum is loaded with discussions about issues or new programs on their way to extras repository. What you want to know about N900 and Maemo5 is already written down at maemo.org or nokia.com.

fmms - frals's program for MMS has hit testing last week (compared to iPhone's MMS release this is amazingly fast!) so if you do not want to risk any stability of your device you have to wait a couple of days till it is tested, afaik it is working ok BUT the setup might be tricky at some point so be careful if you want to try out on testing repository.

USER EXPERIENCE MAY CHANGE DURING ONLINE PLAY (be aware that this experience may be extras-testing and extras-devel repositories and that those repositories are able to give you beautiful black brick with touchscreen and keyboard and you make further experience with reflashing your device, means NO FUN for inexperienced users)

If you are new to linux based OSs you may look up any terminology you do not know at wikipedia/google as linux/GNU in its full beauty is documented all over the place (internet).

CLOSED

EDIT: for the playlist thing: long-tap is like right-click to give context menu > for adding files you need to go to any list view not being the player (does only work for radio and audio files), you can add play-lists, folders or single files via context menu > add to current play-list.
The delete from play-list functions is due to some fault turned of in the current PR-Firmware, to turn it on you need to change the gconf entry (I guess you do not know what I am talking about so keep your hands off or search the forum for advice). PR 1.2 will have some more features and different view of the mediaplayer. PR 1.2 adds video calling too (you didn't ask but that's right after MMS on the list).
