Hi,

Newbie here... I spent a lot of time reading threads on various issues, and addons and upgrades to the Nokia 770. I saw the site maemo.org with all the applications and files. I also saw that a hacked OS 2007 is going to being worked on, but my understanding is that is it is still not really out there? But I see a lot of people talking about it, is this a pre-release?

My questions is to understand the Hacked Edition! I searched for the OS in maemo.org but I couldn't find the OS 2006 Hacked edition itself? Is this supposed to replace the OS 2006 that is on the flash of the Nokia 770?

I can see all kinds of patches, application but no OS? What is the really file name for the OS 2006 hack if I want to us the 2006 hacked Edition first until the 2007 is finalized?

I looked for OS2006 Hacked Edition
I looked for IT OS 2006

I also couldn't find a good site that just explains the new additions in the HE? I can see the different stuff scattered in the threads? But is there a good site that says what is new?

Thank you kindly for your help and patience with a newbie

Go to this URL:

http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/

It has all the OS environments for the 770.

There is no 2006 HackeD Edition (it doesn't need to be hacked, it already runs on the 770 :-)

What you're looking for is 2007 HackeR Edition (a version of the N800's OS, more or less ported to the 770, for hackers...)

Look in the Garage at maemo.org

Thanks for the explanation! I thought the OS 2006 Hacked was a whole new load that was created with extra features for the 770!

Now I understand thanks to you that it's simply the OS on the 800 that gets brought to 770!

Makes things a lot clearer.

Thanks.

One more question please.

I was looking for a MMC card on ebay... I found this 2GB:

http://cgi.ebay.ca/2G-2GB-2-G-MMC-CA...QQcmdZViewItem

I was about to buy it but then I saw:

Support the interface of the MMC or SD Slots.

I didn't think that MMC and SD cards are the same size? Is this true that a card could be SD or MMC?

Thanks.

Hello ssss25!

Am I right that you plan to use this card with Nokia 770? Than don't buy it - you need not just MMC but either MMC-Mobile or RS-MMC.
By the way, normal SD and MMC are interchangeable on almost any modern device AFAIK.

WBR,

alexib

Ok thanks Saved me

I didn't know that MMC and that MMC-Mobile or RS-MMC are different. Yes this is for the 770. I will redo my search on Ebay for MMC-Mobile or RS-MMC.

Thanks.

what are the pros and cons of going to the 2007HE? for the 770? is it a must install?

Is it rock solid and stable? will there no furthur official development by Nokia?

No, no and no. An updated version of OS 2007HE should appear "soon" which should be more stable and functional than the current version which is to all intents and purposes a proof of concept. Development of OS 2007HE is unofficial in the sense that you get no software support (which in reality means nothing at all) but the development is being performed by Nokia, so it's an official firmware in that sense.

Stick with OS 2006 if you want to enjoy a stable device. Switch to OS 2007HE if you enjoy bleeding edge instability and inexplicably broken functionality.

Thanks all for all your help.

Will now order

Also, about the discussion with 2006 and 2007... I will stick to 2006 for now, however, what do you gain by going to 2007? Will read about it further on the forum or the web.

Thanks.
