I am stuck in a loop.
I get a faint NOKIA image on the screen. Then it gets bright with the Nokia image and in the left hand lower corner a message that says Installing software update Please do not interrupt.
Then it goes off and starts that cycle again and again and again and again you get the picture.

I remove the battery as soon as I put the battery in the faint NOKIA image appears and that is where it sits.
Tried the Flasher taking the battery out putting it back in hooking up the usb while holding the u key same thing it starts the loop and I am stuck cannot flash it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Your battery may be too flat; It won't flash with a weak battery. The N900 doesn't charge in flashing mode and the battery takes a pounding. Beg or borrow one that's fully charged. Any one with an N900 or a Nokia 5800 has the right battery. Alternatively charge your battery with an external charger.

Possible but the battery was fully charged when I started the OTA that started this mess.

dont panic, try now with a manual flasher
and download the PR 1.2 image yourself and do the upgrade again.

tirtawn was making reference, I believe, to what is contained in the above linked wiki. It is a recipe for flashing the N900.

If you have a Windows PC you can also use Nokia Software Updater to flash the phone once the battery is full.

Same thing happened to me...PR 1.2 bricked my n900 I did OTA and it just doesnt start, keeps showing the nokia screen and goes in an endless restarting loop.

I'm now downloading the firmware images from here:
http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php

Then refer here :

Hi TZM,
Can I use Nokia Software Upgrade in this scenario. Does NSU download the flash image itself ? Or is maemo flasher a better option

Listen, the same thing happened to me. Did you by chance attempt to install all of your old apps/update?

The only thing that helped me was re-flashing it, restoring the back up, and before updating all of my apps, I had to change the distribution of Extras. That's the ONLY change I made and the phone's working on PR1.2 now.
