Hi,

I found out that Nokia released latest N900 firmware for UK users. I have N900 which I got it from Vodafone but I cant see anything in my 'App Manager --> Update' area it says 'No updates available'.

Does anyone know when we will be able to load this update via OTA because when I am trying to access OVI store it says 'I can not access OVI without updating my N900' and giving me direction that how to update using app manager :-( ?

Vodafone UK have their own version of the OS. I don't think anyone has been able to see any significant difference, but it does mean that you have to wait for Vodafone to release their own version of the PR1.2 update - and they haven't even released February's PR1.1.1 update yet.

You can either wait for Vodafone to release their own version of PR1.2, or you can Flash your phone to the generic UK version of PR1.2 - essentially replacing the Vodafone version of PR1.1 that you already have on there.

I was in the same boat (Vodafone UK N900), and I flashed mine on Saturday, and it worked fine.

Flashing will remove all of your installed apps.
Your contacts, SMS/IM history, IM accounts, personal files, ringtone settings, and lock code should remain.
Your desktop layout, regional settings, wi-fi settings, e-mail settings and data counter counts will be deleted.

The user data for some, but not all, apps is deleted by the flashing process - the Angry Birds game is an example of an app that loses its data, Mozilla Firefox is an example of one that does not. With some apps, it is possible to manually find, back up, and restore the user data.

Whether you should update or not, is up to you. Here is the changelog for PR1.2:

One more question when I will flash my phone manually....Do I have to flash eMMC as well? or firmware would be enough....?

Hopefully, an advantage of flashing to the generic build is that future updates won't be held up by the lack of Vodafone support. I did it last Thursday and it worked fine. The really time consuming bit is backing up and restoring data. It also did me the favour of allowing me to ditch a bunch of unwanted apps in one fell swoop. Whether the update is really worth the wait is another matter. Personally, Opera Mobile has made a bigger difference to my life than PR 1.2.

Though it does specifically mention pre-production versions of the N900.
Flashing the eMMC resets the MyDocs folder, will delete all your personal data - music, documents, videos, etc.

P.S. one thing I forgot to mention, flashing will also delete your email settings.

On Voda here to but i've an unbranded 900 from Carphone Whouse.

If your not seeing any major issues or having concerns with the older PR you might aswell wait for vodafone. They can take some time tho.

But if patience fails and PC Suite update doesnt see new firmware try updating with Maemo Flasher 3.5, details within this forum. Be it PC Suite or Flasher, ensure you do a full back up (everything ticked) using the back up applicaton ON the device before then a FULL back up restore afterwards.

Might also be wise to ensure as a precaution your contacts are all saved to your SIM.

Note that in my instance i only flashed the FIRMWARE not the EMMC.

I will check for updating later on. lol
