i bought two. had the 770, n800 and n810 before and was very content. the n900 is still the only truly free and open phone built upon a GNU/linux stack. in short: there's no alternative anyway, and besides it's still great.

No posts were lost during the merge. I deleted specific posts afterwords. Keep posts on-topic and constructive.

This is it for me...

Well I don't really hate Nokia but I did come in with very low expectations in terms of user support. In general any megacorp is gonna treat its customers like **** unless shamed into doing otherwise.

Some good work is being done on the software side of things, but the horrible handling of the USB breakage issue shows you how dismal the hardware support situation is and how Nokia is willing to treat the buyers of their 'halo car.'

Yeah... that is why i used a sarcastic smiley....

And if you pretend to be a part of an Open Source Community, a moderation behavior like this (and things like deleting posts, entire threads, closing threads etc, just because they do not fit the things people like), is inexcusable..... 'cause i suppose that you already have the experience that the more you delete/ban... the more the affected person challenges you and the readers with new flame/trolling etc....

But anyway... who am i to question your judgments and your powers given to you from high above....

(Please do not take this personal... It is just my own humble opinion on what should/shouldn't a Moderator of a community do... No need to be the right opinion though....)

i am still a student with a 3 year college in accountancy. i know, it does not connect too much (maybe 20%) but to be a successful person in terms of financial, i need to be aware and a bit educated not only in one OS.

since i got here in canada and got my first job, the n900 does everything for me, all in one device. a computer, media, phone and a game device (with an awesome speed!). and just keeps getting better and better.

Part of it was that I had an n810 and liked it a lot, and wanted to continue to be involved in the community with the latest hardware. Part of it was that my experiment with a Treo 680 fell flat on its face and I figured GarnetVM would be better. And part of it was that I was Sick To F***ing Death of AT&T and wanted the excuse to go back to T-Mobile and one of their new no-contract plans.

But the most awesome part of it has to do with remote support ability. Every once in a while I'll get support request calls from the folks at my Temple, and they really like it if I can fix issues for them right then and there - such as this morning, when they called me while in a computer store parking lot. Put 'em on speakerphone, set up a few SSH tunnels in, then used VNC to connect to the systems in question, and solved the issue (Quickbooks had crashed on the server AGAIN - hate Intuit so very, very much...).

It's not a phone I regularly recommend to most folks (it's ideal for geeks like me; not so much for, say, my technical manager mother, who'd probably prefer a Droid/Milestone)... but I wouldn't be happy with anything else.

"Why did you get the N900?'.... well cause over here....N900 don't tied to a specific network, with physical slideout keyboard, good built even i drop it couple of times, and still work flawlessly, best windows mobile browsing experience,,...and many more....:>
