@benson: eh, i don't know enough about NeXT or early versions of macs. But if I'm not mistaken most OS in the 90s came with very limited amount of bitmapped ui assets that they only properly support a few ppi.

One exception that I remember was the SGI irix, with its vector desktop elements.

Honestly speaking, who advertised to me the most about how amazing new iPhone is (with order)

1) My iSheep Apple fanboy friends.
2) People in forums (this or other forums or youtube under video comments)
3) Apple itself

So, Most of the marketing is done by customers or potential customers. Appleizm is almost a new religion.

@dbl2010: yes exactly, that is a great illustration of how great apple's marketing machine is.

lol. The ability to transform your followers into effective evangelists is indeed good marketing.

Ever noticed how the followers of Linus Torvalds, and essentially Linux, tend to be the opposite of him? He's a real nice fellow. Some (especially early on) Linux lovers were rather mean, quick to judge and label you a n00b. Whereas Steve Jobs comes off as a prick but... oh, nevermind.

Yeah. I guess I would have to say that Nokia is silent meanwhile the followers of Maemo are very vocal.

That'll work.
