How can I change (or disable) the interval which checks the repository for updates of installed applications if a connection is established? I would like to control it.
Thanks

I believe the usual trick is to set it to a really high number; however, you can try moving the notifier's desktop file so that it won't be loaded: /usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/ham-notifier.desktop & /usr/share/applications/hildon-status-menu/ham-updates.desktop

it would be really nice to have an option like with the mail client "only check when connected thru WLAN"

You're not meant to edit GConf's XML files directly, which is what that page is suggesting.
