I've spent some time doing searches for streaming video URLs that will work with the standard Video player application in IT 2006.49-2. There are some neat add-in programs like mplayer and ukmp, but I wondered where I could look for links to video streams that would work without any additional software. I'm going back to my search, and I'll post links here. If you would also post whatever else you find along these lines here, we can have a little reference list.

Best wishes to all

Note: The IT OS 2006 documentation lists the following as supported stream formats:

3GP/3GPP, AVI, MPE, MPEG, MPG, RA, RM, RMJ, RMVB, RV

I assume that the text from the manual about playing video files with the video player application also applies to streaming video: "The video player does not necessarily support all the variations of a file format."

Here are a few direct links that work with the standard Video Player application. Like any streaming station, it they don't come up, try later. :-)

I'm glad that you liked them.

What makes it hard to find working links is that so many places are now using less "open" formats than the the ones supported by the 770. I hope that a lot of us write (try postal mail - these days a real letter showing up gets some attention) to various television houses like BBC. ITV, NBC, or whatever interests you. Politely point out that using an open streaming format gives them a broader audience, especially with people on a tight budget or in places where it is not as easy to stay current with one's equipment or software. Mentioning that an inexpensive device like the 770 provides an easy way to test if the video stream is likely to be useable by inexpensive computers running open source software, or an older computer that can't support advanced proprietary formats. The most that any of us will be out is a little time, some paper, a few envelopes and some postage.

That suggestion made, here are some more that work on IT OS 2006 (And I'll keep on testing for new ones):

Galaxy Universe TV
rtsp://real.prohosting.com/encoder/galaxy.rm

Live Ireland TV
http://www.liveireland.com/liveireland/litv.ram

Rogue Data Vault 1

Rogue Data Vault 2
http://rvtv.roguedatavault.net/ramgen/broadcast/live/two.rm

Rogue Data Vault 3

Streaming video links seem to go dead faster than most other links. If they aren't dead, they are changed to formats like Window Media, Flash, or QuickTime. It's hard to find links that work with bare bones IT OS 2006. My intent is to delete any dead ones that I have posted in this thread. If anyone notices one of their demise, please post a note so that I can delete it from my posts. Thanks!

On that note, a strategy that might be fruitful is searching for media outlets in those places.

I stumbled on this one four weeks ago...

I haven't checked it since, so who knows? But what I saw was a Hollywood movie with Albanian subtitles. The A1 Televizion station is business-oriented when the markets are open, so perhaps all movies (many English?) during the weekends.

Here's a great site full of streaming interviews that works on the 770.
