After looking at this tablet for several months, I couldn't resist anymore, I bought one
I'm from France and been using Linux/Unix for 15 years or so, and debian for 2 years.
1 hour before buying it, I looked at the thread about cards corruption which frightened me. But as a kid, nothing could change my mind anymore..
When I went in the shop, the guy told me:
>Ah yeah we have it, it's hidden behind the iPods.. We ordered it by mistake we though it was a phone. MMmmmh you do know it's not a phone?
>Yeah yeah I just buy it because of the penguin on the back of the box.
People looked at me like if I was coming from Mars
So far, after 1 day of playing I am very impressed by the n800. After an hour, I updated the firmware. All went ok.
I have several questions though.
1) At home I don't have a wireless internet AP. And the only working wireless computer can not get to the internet (problem about dhcp that I have since a year or something). Anyway, I wanted to download debs packages and transfer them manually to the n800. I was not able to install this damned vte and ncurses libraries. "imcompatible application". I managed to install a lot of other packages, maybe 50 in a day
Ok now I'm at work and I will connect to the internet so the application manager will do the job. But as a curious person I would like to know which one I should download, take vte for example. I went to the package list for bora (is it really bora? ), checked the name of the packages and then went into repository.maemo.org/pool and took everything but no way.
2) Then I wanted to connect my debian to the n800. Was not able because I don't know how to set the IP of the n800. When connected it says "connected with ip-local". Greaaat what's ip-local? I will not install a dhcpserver on my debian but would like to know if its possible to set the IP?
3) Dropbear or sshserver, what's the difference? They are installed but due to 2) I can't connect to the n800
4) possible to ssh over Bluetooth? Humm?
I managed to crash the n800 by running "fractal cpu test" once and had to switch off/on. After rerunning it several times, not able anymore to crash it.
I'm planning to develop for this n800. I mean its a bit the purpose of the n800 I guess.. I saw some tutorials on maemo website I'll have a look. If somebody has some good links, it could help me.
Great forum, thanks.
